About us

The Lokpal Debate collective is constituted of individuals located in different cities of India interested in documenting and promoting debate on possible forms of anti corruption measures. These proposals may involve law-making (while highlighting its social and political implications), but would not be confined to law-making alone. The collective feels that there are various strands of opinion drawn from the experience of activists in a variety of social justice movements in India – including those fighting for the rights of dalits, adivasis, workers, women and minorities – that are missing from the campaign for the one-size-fits-all super-law pushed for by India Against Corruption. We want to give visibility to these alternative opinions, and also highlight the dangers of right wing forces and corporate lobbyists stirring up anti-political mob frenzy and pushing for technocratic short cuts rather than raising public consciousness and organising grassroots debate to deepen democracy from below.
